Orange County Emergency Dentist Dr. Tammy Tran

And if you suffer from dental anxiety, let us help put you at ease. Many people put off regular dental care because of traumatic dental experiences they may have had as a child. Dr. Tran understands those emotions. She is a gentle dentist and is trained in sedation dentistry techniques that she can use during your visit. Sedation dentistry can make your visit with Dr. Tran pain-free during your emergency. And our goal is to help introduce you to regular dental care to help avoid future dental emergencies.

Typical Dental Emergency Issues

Dental emergencies happen for a number of reasons. You might have a toothache, or an infection in your mouth, or perhaps an injury to your face has broken a tooth or teeth. Here is some information about these incidents.

  • A toothache can occur because of a cavity in the tooth, or decay under an old filling. Sometimes a small crack can develop in a tooth and that's all it might take to allow bacteria to get inside and cause an infection. Other times, a toothache can result because a part of the tooth has worn away, exposing parts that are sensitive.
  • If you have an infection in your mouth, you need to see a dentist, even if there's little or no pain. Antibiotics alone will not get rid of the infection. For example an abscess that is draining may not hurt, but it will have to be taken care of before more serious conditions develop. An infection can also develop from gum disease.
  • If you have an injury to your face and a tooth has been knocked out, you need to come in immediately. Save the tooth. Wrap it in a moist towel (not a wet towel and not in water) or place it in milk that is slightly warm. This helps keep the tooth alive and it might be possible to save it, if you can get to the office within ten to thirty minutes.

Always remember that any kind of pain is a sign that something is wrong. Even if the pain stops, the problem may still be there and you should still come in for an examination. To make an emergency dental appointment with Dr. Tran and Fountain Valley Dental Care, call (714)-979-3710.
