A smile makeover can be accomplished by a number of techniques. For example, braces can be used to straighten crooked front teeth, but that process takes time. Porcelain veneers, thin wafers of porcelain, can be bonded to front teeth to make them look near perfect, but veneers are costly.
A third method offered by Orange County Dentist Dr. Tammy Tran is a Snap-on Smile. This is a fast and much less costly procedure than either of the first two options.
The Snap-on Smile is a product made from a crystallized acetyl resin by Den-Mat, a dental materials company and laboratory in California. It is flexible and durable and tough enough to eat with. It will last about three to five years.
While a Snap-on Smile will improve your appearance, you should keep in mind that it will not give the beautiful smile that porcelain veneers will. If you want a gorgeous Hollywood smile, go with porcelain veneers. If you want an acceptable smile, the Snap-on Smile is a nice, affordable option.
How Does the Snap-on Smile Work?
The process for obtaining a Snap-on Smile is simple. First, Dr. Tran will take an impression of your teeth. The impression is used to create a hardened plaster model. The Den-Mat laboratory then uses that model to create your new smile according to Dr. Tran’s instructions.
On your next visit to Dr. Tran, when you receive the finished appliance, you simply snap it onto your teeth. Dr. Tran will make any necessary adjustments, and you’re ready to go.
The resin is made from it tough enough so that you can eat with it.
Keeping this appliance clean also is simple. You just take it out, brush and floss, then put it back in. Take care with cleaning. The Snap-on Smile can trap plaque and food particles that can cause tooth decay. So make sure you are diligent in cleaning it after every time you eat. Every time you eat anything, even if it is only a single potato chip, we recommend that you excuse yourself to a restroom, take the appliance out, swish, and put it back in.
If you have questions about whether a Snap-on Smile is right for you but aren’t ready to commit to a dental examination, Dr. Tran would be happy to discuss that with you.
