A loose tooth

I've been dealing with gum disease for several years, but I've gotten it under control. There haven't been any bleeding of my gums in quite some time. However, recently one of my teeth has come loose and it is making me nervous. Is there anyway I can kind of  push it back in or something be done to save it?

Jennifer R. from Maumelle, AR

Jennifer,

You can't just push the tooth back in, but you could put a splint on the tooth. Wire can be bonded to the inside surface of the front teeth. Another method is to use a mesh-type product. The mesh product is a fabric that is cut into a narrow strip, then formed into a matrix and bonded to the front teeth on the inside surfaces. After you do that, the tooth could be reshaped to fit in better with the other teeth.
