My dentist told me I had to get a tooth extracted and that if I didn’t he wouldn’t treat me anymore. Can he do that?

Your dentist cannot force you to do a certain procedure, but he also doesn’t have to treat you. To be quite frank with you, I don’t know if I would want to go to a dentist who tried to bully me into a procedure. It is OK for your dentist to tell you what he thinks is the best procedure. However, he should also tell you why it is the best procedure and then explain all the options available to you.
I don’t know the specifics of your case and it can be that your tooth cannot be saved and an extraction might be the only option left; however, he should have been nicer about it (in the least). You might try looking for someone who considers him or herself a gentle dentist. Dr. Tran is a gentle dentist and she never does a procedure unless the patient is ready and comfortable with it.
