I’m so sad. I was hoping to fix my tetracycline stains, but my dentist said the only way to do that is to get them treated with porcelain veneers with an expensive cosmetic dentist. I looked into it and it’s just way too over my budget. Is that the only way? I was hoping I could at least whiten them but he said that does no good.
Tetracycline stains are among some of the toughest things to treat in the industry. These stains are not your fault, but they are deep and dark. They develop when someone is given the tetracycline antibiotic while their teeth are still developing. You had no control over it.
All that being said, it probably doesn’t keep you from feeling like you have an unattractive smile. While your dentist is right that the standard best practice is to use porcelain veneers, it is costly. Not many can afford it.
Traditional teeth whitening methods have done little to really make a true dent in tetracycline stains. However there is another system called The Kör Teeth Whitening System. This one has had much greater results in treating these type of deep stains.
Find a Dentist Willing to Find Solutions
I’m going to tell you right off the bat, I don’t think your dentist is serving you well. You can do better. Either he only gives the ideal option and lets you suffer if you can’t afford it or he doesn’t keep up with his industry and is unwilling to do research to see if there’s anything else which can aide his patient.
I know it can be challenging to find a new dentist. There are some things you can do to research ahead of time. Look up reviews to see if patients who’ve been there felt well taken care of. There are also dentists who are willing to give free second opinions. You may want to try one of them first to see if you can get someone who also offers the whitening you need.
