I have found a way to get my dental work done after years of avoiding the dentist. I’m caught up and healthy. Sedation allowed me to get the work done while sleeping. It really helped me. But, now that I have no more problems and just need checkups and cleanings, I’m wondering if I’ll still need to be sedated for everything. It’s a tad inconvenient for my husband to always take the day off every time I need dental work.
It’s great that sedation has been such a blessing to you. It does wonders for patients with severe dental anxiety. It’s also great for helping patients who need a lot of work done to get it done in one sitting. However, that doesn’t mean you have to do it forever and every single time you go to the dentist.
It’s possible, now that you have all the “tough” appointments behind you that all you’ll need is to see a gentle dentist. This could help get you past all of it. Once you know that dental appointments don’t have to equal pain, it’s a life changer.
How a Gentle Dentist Helps
First, gentle dentists know how to deal with patients who’ve experienced anxiety. They are gentle in their movements and are careful to always explain what they’re about to do. They pause when you need them to and always take the time to answer your questions.
Once you’re comfortable at the dentist again, you’ll be able to do all those things to improve the aesthetics of your smile that you’ve never been able to do before without a healthy mouth. If you want, you can get your teeth whitened. You could even get a total smile makeover. None of that is required, of course. But, now that you’re back to good oral health, sometimes it just feels good to know you have options.
