I’ve tried to go to the dentist on and off over the years, but each time end up with the same bad experience. Everything is so painful and I can’t bring myself to go back for years. But, lately I’ve developed a minor toothache and I’m worried something’s wrong. Does it always have to be painful?
I’m sorry you’ve had so many bad experiences. First, let me assure you that you can have gentle dentistry.
Given your previous appointments, I wouldn’t be too surprised if you suffer a bit from dental anxiety. That can make being in the chair even more nerve-wracking.
Don’t feel too bad about that. Even patients without painful appointments can struggle with that. Fortunately, there are dentists who specifically work with patients who struggle in the dental chair. They’re patient. They’re compassionate. They’re gentle. So how does one go about finding that type of dentist?
Finding Your Gentle Dentist
Dentists who work with anxious patients will generally make that known on their website. Some terms to search for are:
- Cater to Cowards Dentist
- Gentle Dentist
- Sedation Dentist
I know you’re afraid, but given that you have a toothache, you really don’t want to put this off. The last thing you want to end up with is a dental emergency. That leads to more invasive procedures. Plus, you don’t want to risk losing a tooth and being stuck getting a tooth replacement.
