I drove into the city to get a pediatric for my child, thinking they would be more gentle with children than a regular dentist. But, I felt he was a little rough and impatient. Is there anything wrong with me taking my child to my dentist? He’s quite calm and gentle.

It is perfectly fine for a child to see a general dentist on the condition that the general dentist enjoys working with children. They’re qualified to work with children.
It sounds like you have a gentle dentist who would be great. Just run it by him first to see what his policy on children. How wonderful that you’ve found a dentist who makes you so comfortable you’d trust your children with him.
