I have a problem with dental fear. My dentist wants me to use sedation dentistry. I’m even more afraid of that. I need to be alert. It is a deeper fear than dealing with the dentist. Are there options that aren’t sedation that will help me deal?

I think what you want is more of a gentle dentist, rather than a sedation dentist. A gentle dentist is good at taking care of your exam without the pain many patients have come to expect at the dentist’s office. Dr. Tran is so gentle, that children love seeing her.
I would try to find a similar dentist in your area. Many of them have other things to make things easier for their fearful patients. You can have aroma-therapy, music with headphones, drinks, snacks, television….any kind of distraction you need.
It would help if you spoke with your dentist regarding what bothers you about sedation. Is it fear of not having control or something else?
