My dentist and I aren’t quite in agreement. I need a tooth replaced. He thinks it needs to be a dental implant. I understand he thinks that it is the best treatment, but it’s quite expensive. I just want to get a bridge. Is it really necessary to get the implant?

Carrie,
I understand why your frustrated. While your dentist is correct that a dental implant is a better treatment option, that doesn’t mean it’s for everyone. The decision as to whether to get a dental implant or a bridge isn’t always just what’s best clinically. Sometimes it is a matter of finances. If a dental implant will keep you from buying food for your family, it is not the best treatment–especially when a dental bridge will satisfactorily treat it.
Speak to your dentist. Explain to him that you can’t afford the implant. ‘Either he can give you the best bridge treatment he can do or you’ll need to go to another dentist. You’re in charge here.
