I’m wondering if my new dentist is trying to rip me off. I went in to get a tooth replaced. My old dentist would have always done a dental bridge, but the new dentist said that is no longer the standard treatment. Instead they do dental implants. That is a lot more expensive. Is this really the new treatment?

While your dentist is technically right, it doesn’t mean you still can’t get a bridge. Dental Implants are the preferred treatment because they do a better job of protecting your underlying jawbone. In fact, the New York Times ran a piece on this in 2009.
However, I hope your dentist realizes that not everybody is working under the same budget. While one particular treatment might be the ideal, it doesn’t mean that you have to get that treatment.
Sometimes a bridge could make more sense. You might want to read our page on Dental Bridge Vs. Implant for more information.
