I went into the emergency room with absolutely unbearable tooth pain. They just gave me tylenol and sent me home. This was after getting on to me for “wasting” emergency room staff and resources on a toothache. They acted like I was a baby. I can’t tell you how much pain I am still in. To make matters worse, they’ve charged me $700 for the priveledge of being lectured and sent home without help. What do I do?
I am very sorry for your experience. Emergency rooms generally won’t treat dental problems. Though they may have maligned you, dental infections are exceptionally painful.
There is something you can do. We don’t have dental emergency rooms, but there are emergency dentists who will treat non-patients. Some even after hours.
You probably have a tooth infection, so you don’t want to leave this untreated. You’ll need a root canal treatment. Even if the hospital had given you antibiotics, it would not have taken care of your infection. To get rid of a tooth infection, the dentist has to remove the infected pulp inside the tooth.
Take care of this as soon as possible, because you don’t want the infection to spread.
