I had two wisdom teeth removed. For some reason, I can’t feel one side of my tongue very well. Do you know what is causing this?
Brandon M.- Texas
There is a lingual nerve that goes to your tongue and runs by your wisdom teeth. Sometimes it even runs on top of the wisdom tooth. It is in a different position for each patient, so sometimes it can be impossible not to encounter it during the wisdom tooth removal process.
What your prognosis is will depend on what happened to the nerve. If it was just bruised, you should be back to normal in about a month. If it was crushed, it could take up to a year to heal. If, however, it was cut, it may never heal. It will just take time to find out which scenario you are in.
